ABOUT THE FAMILY COLLAGE

The Gantt Center hosts A'Lelia Bundles – writer, public speaker and entrepreneur – for The Family Collage. This Heritage & History program is inspired by the recent commemoration of the 105th birthday of Charlotte-born Romare Bearden. Not only did Bundles once interview the renowned artist, but Bearden's and Bundles' maternal ancestors were close friends. As Bundles shares fascinating stories of both famous families, guests will gain insights and be inspired to collect family histories and keep family roots alive.

ABOUT A'LELIA BUNDLES

Author of three books, Bundles is currently at work on her fourth, The Joy Goddess of Harlem: A'Lelia Walker and the Harlem Renaissance, a biography of her great-grandmother, whose parties, friendships, global travel and arts patronage made her a central figure of an enchanted era of American history. A prior biography of her iconic great-great-grandmother, On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker was named a New York Times Notable Book.

Bundles is president of the Madam Walker and A'Lelia Walker Family Archives. She also serves as chairman of the board of the National Archives Foundation and board trustee of Columbia University. She worked as a network television news executive and producer at both NBC News and ABC News.
